Mr. Chanchlesh shrivas Associate Professor, Ms. Kalpana Barde and Mrs. Varsha Pardhi, Clinical Instructors.The visit was Organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. T. Jayakumar, Principal, LN Nursing School, Bhopal and under the Supervision of Prof.Mrs.Vibha Jacob, (HOD) Department of Community Health Nursing.
The objective of this visit to Aashra Old Age Home was organized to provide nursing students with practical exposure to the challenges and needs of elderly individuals in institutional care. The aim was to enhance understanding of geriatric care while fostering compassion, empathy, and sensitivity toward senior citizens.
The Team was warmly received by the staff, who provided an overview of the home’s mission,operations, and facilities. A clean and supportive environment was observed. Facilities included well-maintained rooms, a common dining area, and garden. Recreational activities such as daily prayers, bhajans, and television were available to the residents.
Students engaged in meaningful conversations with elderly residents, learning about their life experiences, challenges, and coping strategies.
Observations highlighted the resilience and adaptability of the residents despite their personal and social challenges.
The home ensured the provision of nutritious meals, regular health checkups, and round-the-clock nursing care. Staff emphasized the importance of addressing both physical and emotional well-being.
The visit provided students with an enriching experience, helping them to:Gain practical insights into the physical, emotional, and social challenges faced by senior citizens.Cultivate greater compassion and respect for the elderly.Recognize the significance of holistic and community-based approaches in geriatric care. The visit to Aashra Old Age Home served as a valuable learning opportunity for the students. It not only deepened their understanding of geriatric nursing but also highlighted the critical role of community involvement in supporting elderly individuals.
